CIVL Radio 101.7 FM is proud to announce it’s production of the National Community and Campus Radio Association program, Groundwire!

The 29 minute newscast was conducted collaboratively with stations from across Canada, and this edition includes reports from CFRU 93.3 FM at the University of Guelph, Ontario, CJSF 90.1 FM in Burnaby, BC at Simon Fraser University, and 102.7 FM CFRO Co-op Radio in Downtown Vancouver.

NCRA Member Stations Across Canada will air CIVL’s Edition of Groundwire over the next two weeks.

CIVL reports on the Abbotsford election and P3 Water Referendum, Media Democracy Day at SFU, and Occupy Vancouver, as well as the Community Radio Report focusing on stations on Gabriola Island, and East Jerusalem, Israel.

After technical difficulties in Week 2 of the CIS Regular Season, Week 3, and the UFV Men and Womens’ Cascades Basketaball teams second home-stand of the season will finally be broadcast on 101.7 FM throughout Abbotsford and Mission, Friday November 18th starting at 6 pm until 10, and Saturdays November 19th starting at 5 pm until 9, as well as on the web right here at www.civl.ca !

CIVL Hosts Live On Air Mayoral Debate!

On Friday, November 4th, The Way I See It will once again be hosting an all-candidates debate.  Featuring incumbent Mayor George Peary, as well as challengers Bruce Banman, Meghann Coughlan, Travis J. Daleman and Gerda Peachey, the show will be broadcast as a special edition from 2pm to 3pm, and then re-air on Monday, November 14th, at a special time, between 5-6 pm.  In both instances, the show can be heard by tuning in to 101.7 FM, or listening on-line at www.civl.ca.

Justin P. Goodrich, who hosts & produces the weekly political and public affairs radio program, says that given the incredibly positive response we received from the community after our all-candidates debate for the federal election Air Jordan 11 Retro, we are glad to be able to once again provide an opportunity to connect the community with their candidates.

The Way I See It has been on-air since January of this year and is the only show of its kind in the Fraser Valley.  Part of what makes community radio so great is that it not only offers a wide variety of programming, but it serves a meaningful purpose New Balance 479 OutletThe Way I See It is a great example of that because it is all about building bridges; in this case, between the community and its leaders says Aaron Levy, Station Manager.

CIVL will also broadcast the UFV Political Science Student’s Association All Candidates Debate, which will take place on Monday, November, 14th between 7-9 pm on UFV’s Abbotsford Campus, moderated by Professor Scott Fast. The Agenda is outlined below:

(Written questions from the audience are vetted by a panel of three students, this is to ensure no repetitive questions as well as to allow for a broad range of topics. Questions may be directed to individual candidates or all candidates. All candidates will be given the opportunity to answer any question. Candidates will receive three rebuttal cards that will allow them to respond to the claims of other candidates (that is, speak twice or more on a particular issue) – but will spend a rebuttal card each time they do so Candidates will be given up to two minutes to answer and/or rebut.
