CIVL Announces Funding, Hiring New Positions!

$50,000 IN FUNDING OFFERED TO CIVL 101.7 FM

The Community Radio Fund of Canada proudly supports the RECORDING Project

Abbotsford and Ottawa (July, 9, 2018) – The Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) and CIVL Radio, the campus and community radio that serves the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), Fraser Valley, are pleased to announce that $50,000 will go towards the implementation of the RECORDING (Respectful Entertainment, Creating Open Radio Dialogue and Impacting New Groups) Project. These funds were made available by the CRFC under their Radiometres program, a funding program aimed to improve local programming and volunteer participation. For the 5th time, CIVL Radio receives financial support under this program, bringing the total awarded to $186,993. Add funds offered under other CRFC programs and CIVL has been awarded over $200,000 since 2011. Up to 4 new staffers will be hired for this project.

With the funds received this year, CIVL-FM will organize live visits to its studio that will allow higher profile artists to meet with emerging Fraser Valley artists. Musical performances and interviews focusing on issues of intersectionality, local and independent arts and social justice topics will be recorded and promoted.

“CIVL is always trying to encourage people of different backgrounds to engage in local arts,” says CIVL station manager Aaron Levy. “This is a great opportunity to bring more groups into the fold!”

Since its inception in 2012, the Radiometres program enabled a total investment of more than $12 million in the campus and community radio sector. It is an impressive number of 360 funded projects that have been approved. “I’m happy to add CIVL’s project to the growing list of funded initiatives. Projects like this one bring forward the core values of community radio by building meaningful conversations between the community and the local music scene,” says CRFC President, Roger Ouellette.
